If you’re suffering from the New Year blues then a new hairstyle could be just what you need to get yourself into gear. The effects of winter, cold weather, central heating and partying, can easily take its toll on our hairstyle making it dry, dull and lifeless. A fresh cut will rejuvenate any hairstyle adding volume and bounce to outgrown cuts, whilst an in-salon conditioning treatment will quickly bring life back to lacklustre hair.

For those adventurous enough to make a dramatic change in length, there are a number of short hairstyles that are worth considering.

If opting for the classic pixie cut, consider keeping the cut feminine with plenty of layers and length through the fringe. Michelle Williams has experimented with many a short hairstyle but here she’s kept it short underneath and long through the front and top, adding product to give the finished hairstyle a tousled feminine feel.

The pixie crop isn’t the only option for those wanting to take it short. This Autumn/Winter we’ve seen textured voluminous hairstyles dominate the catwalks and many of the shorter hairstyles on show have been textured and layered. Those with naturally wavy hair will find that it lends itself well to shorter hairstyles and gives any short hairstyle natural bounce and volume.

If you’re hesitant to dramatically alter your hair length, the bob or long bob (lob) is a great way to gradually move towards a shorter hairstyle. This versatile cut is easy to keep and will give you just enough length to tie the hair back from the face if need be.
